Wrestling was a big part of my childhood. I went to the shows at blue cross arena. Had the toys. Never missed a Monday Night Raw.
Great memories with my dad as we watched in the basement on the recliners. My Uncle even visited for it. We would grill steaks and then tune in.
I was pretty shocked when I found out Hulk Hogan had passed. He seemed invincible. Truly larger than life.
If you say the name Hulk Hogan anywhere around the globe I think people will know who you’re speaking of. Michael Jackson. Michael Jordan. Hulk Hogan. I think it’s that level of notoriety.
I’ve watched some clips. Listened to his entrance music. It reminds of a time when things seemed simpler. It makes me happy and sad all at the same time.
None of us like to think of death. Yet we get reminded of it often.
It really does feel like we get a short spin at this life. Seeing Hogan pass away brings that to mind for me.
To put in perspective how much me and my best friend as a kid Mike like wrestling I’ll share a story with you.
We must have been 11-13 years old and we had the plan to build a wrestling ring. We tried to convince his dad who took pride in his yard that we would put it in the backyard.
I actually think the plan was to become wrestlers ourselves. It was that cool. WWE in the 90’s was electric.
It wouldn’t have existed without Hulk Hogan.
Wrestling lost an icon. Perhaps the biggest one there will ever be.
