A friend posted these words written on a mantle. I just loved it.
I’ve been on a kick recently that we are all artists. We are all creating something or thinking about creating something.
Cooking a meal, designing a room in your house, a yoga pose. You name it. There is something that you are in the midst of creating.
I don’t think there is any such thing as “bad art”. But the first time you create is going to be messy. We can’t create “good art” until we simply start creating.
We have a batch of new teacher trainees starting at the studio. They’ve never taught yoga. They simply just need the reps. A lot of them.
Inevitably they will mess up poses. Forget sides. All the things that happen we are new to something.
They can’t be a “good” yoga teacher until they start teaching. They have to be a beginner. Letting go of getting it right and being in creation of their voice.
In order to be good at anything you have to be willing to suck. The truth is that most of us aren’t comfortable with that. Myself included. The people who end up becoming teachers from our group will have put in the most reps and made the most mistakes.
So when I saw those three simple words it was a great reminder.
Make Bad Art. Make Good Art. Make Art.
The entire world is blank canvas.
Create.
